The Council of State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation
The U.S. Government spends approximately $200 billion a year on public assistance for Americans with disabilities. For fiscal year 2008, the Federal government is investing less than $3.0 billion to assist Americans with significant disabilities in getting jobs and becoming tax paying citizens.
For FY 2009, we urge Members of Congress to appropriate an additional $200 million above the FY 2009 annual CPI COLA for the Vocational Rehabilitation State Grants. This increase is necessary to expand services to veterans returning from Iraq & Afghanistan and transition-age students with disabilities while maintaining the current level of services and attempting to address the needs of the tens of thousands of eligible individuals with disabilities that are on waiting lists for vocational rehabilitation services.
